About

The valley that forms along the south fork of the Roanoke River between the villages of Shawsville and Elliston served as a path for early Native American tribes, frontier explorers, colonial settlers, and soldiers. Also known as the Great Road into western territories, it was visited by such famous Americans as George Washington and William Clark.
