Youth West African Dance Workshop with The DAY Program

Monday, August 24, 2026 from 3:30pm - 5:00pm at the Fort Monroe YMCA! Ages 8 to 18 are welcome!

Through rhythm and movement, young participants will experience West African dance as a living cultural tradition that continues to connect generations. This engaging workshop introduces traditional movement while encouraging coordination, confidence, creativity, physical activity, and self-expression.

Presented by The DAY Program as part of Rhythms Across Generations: Wellness Through Cultural Traditions, participants will experience how dance brings people together, celebrates culture, and provides another way for traditions to be learned, experienced, and carried forward.

All experience levels are welcome.

The activity is free and open to youth ages 8 to 18.

SPACE IS LIMITED and registration is required. ONLY 30 students will be accepted. Parents are permitted to watch, but are not counted towards the capacity of the class.

Each student must be listed in registration.
