To commemorate America's 250th anniversary, Chesterfield County's 250th Planning Committee and the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia will be recognizing the sacrifices of the Virginia militia who trained on the historic Courthouse Green by dedicating a brick walkway memorial to honor the 1780-1781 "Valley Forge of the South". The dedication ceremony will unveil the brick walkway which will have engraved bricks with the names of the troops who trained at the site. In addition, there will be a historical marker that will be unveiled sponsored by the Chesterfield Courthouse Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. The ceremony will include period music, living history demonstrations, fife and drum performances and speeches by various dignitaries.
