Before & After Leo Plantation

Before & After Leo Plantation

About

Robert Carter III filed a deed of emancipation at the Westmoreland County Courthouse in 1791, gradually freeing over 500 enslaved people. It was the largest private emancipation in our country’s history. Carter’s Leo Plantation in Fairfax County had connections to Oatlands in Loudoun County.
Join us for a presentation about the remarkable story of the people enslaved at Leo, their lives after freedom, and the land where they lived and labored.
The program is free and open to the public. Advance reservations are not required.
