Join us for this exciting event that explores our area’s history, but also celebrates something that EVERYONE loves – food!

Museums and historic sites in our community will offer a variety of programs and special events such as presentations, cooking demonstrations, children’s activities, food tastings, special handouts and giveaways, historic recipes, agriculture related programs and more.

Weeklong celebration of history and food with a number of events focusing on the colonial era. Events include:

Apple History for Kids: August 28 – September 7 (Tuesday - Sunday) l 9:00 am - 4:00 pm l Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum
Enjoy apple themed crafts and take home an apple
"Celebrating the Centennial Around the Dining Room Table in Winchester, 1876:" August 31 and September 7 l 10:00 am l Stonewall Jackson’s Headquarters Museum
With bite-size samples by Knead Bread
Kid’s Kitchen Colonial Edition: September 5 l 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm l Stewart Bell Jr. Archives at the Handley Library
Learn how to make Lost Bread (also known as French Bread). Archives staff will show original recipes in their collection.
Colonial Costume and Dance: September 6 l 11:00 am and 1:00 pm l Winchester-Frederick County Visitor Center
Shenandoah Valley Historical Dancers presentation on historical dancing, including clothing and etiquette. Learn how to dance from the colonial era, with demonstrations and audience participation.
"Colonial American Classics:" September 7 l 10:00 am - 3:00 pm l Abram’s Delight Museum
Learn about colonial food preparation through hearth cooking demonstrations at the 1780s log cabin.
