Celebrate Altavista’s 250th Anniversary with Avoca 250: Lights, Liberty & Legends

Join us July 9–12 for four days of live music, carnival rides, food trucks, fireworks, living history, and community celebration at Avoca Museum. Admission is free!

The carnival will run Tuesday through Sunday from 6–10 pm, with extra Saturday afternoon hours for even more family fun throughout the weekend.

Friday Night at Avoca
Kick off the celebration with food trucks, a beer truck, and live music from Say No More Band from 6–9 pm.

Saturday Living History Celebration | 11 am–4 pm
Step back into the 18th century with immersive reenactments and demonstrations across the grounds of Avoca. Guests can experience Revolutionary War encampments, blacksmithing, pottery, spinning, colonial cooking, Quaker life, colonial music, rifle and cannon demonstrations, and educational presentations highlighting the lives of enslaved individuals and Native Americans during this era.
Special programming will also include portrayals of Col. Charles Lynch and Penelope Lynch, the official launch of the first-ever biography written about Col. Lynch, signing with the author, a preview of the upcoming Charles Lynch documentary, and a visit from the Virginia Statewide 250 mobile museum.

Saturday Night Celebration
Keep the fun going Saturday evening with food trucks, a beer truck, and live music throughout the night featuring The Pete Turpin Band from 4–7 pm and Landslide from 6–9 pm. The evening will conclude with fireworks at 9:15 pm!

Admission is free for all events. Food, drinks, carnival rides, and select vendors will have items available for purchase.
