Monroe at the Mill: A Conversation with President Monroe

Monroe at the Mill: A Conversation with President Monroe

About

Joseph Gales, Jr. co-publisher of the National Intelligencer newspaper, will be in conversation with President Monroe on June 28, 1826, to discuss the former president’s views on his speech now known as the Monroe Doctrine. Monroe’s U.S. foreign policy declaration from 1823 opposed European interference in the Western Hemisphere and asserted the United States as the protector of the Americas. What does he think of it 18 months after he presented it to Congress and now that he is a private citizen?
Guest Speakers will be Scott Harris, Executive Director, University of Mary Washington Museums and James "Jay" G. Harrison, Executive Director, The Museum of Culpeper History. $20 at the door; no reservations necessary.
